If a woman gets a yeast infection there are a lot of over the counter drug based treatments she can choose from to treat it. But some women are unhappy with how effective these are and they only treat the symptoms not the root cause. A better reaction might be to learn what causes a yeast infection and deal with that to prevent them in the first place.

There are three main triggers discussed here and they are hormonal ones, pregnancy, menopause and menstruation but there are others, so if you do not find your root cause here, do a little more research. Pregnancy: Though this is a time for celebration and joy as well as the other discomforts a pregnant woman has to endure, being more likely to get a vaginal yeast infection is another. Again this is due to the ever fluctuating hormones and tends to occur in the third trimester. When looking for treatment pregnant women should always discuss options with a doctor first.

Menopause: The final large hormonal time in a woman’s life but another time when yeast infections may be more prone, though scientific evidence of this has not yet been found.

Since it is unlikely you are willing to never have children just to stop the chances of a yeast infection, there is not a lot that can be done in terms of prevention when it is about hormones. Keeping everything else in balance can help, such as a healthy diet, loose clothing and so on.
